What is Distributed Computing?

Distributed computing is a system architecture where computing resources are spread across multiple machines, working together to process tasks efficiently. It enables parallel processing, fault tolerance, and scalability, making it ideal for handling large-scale applications such as cloud services, big data analytics, and blockchain networks. Technologies like Hadoop, Kubernetes, and distributed databases power modern distributed computing environments.

Related Glossaries

  • Data Drift Data drift is when the data feeding a production AI system changes over time, so the model's inputs no longer match what it was built and validated on even though the model code is unchanged.
  • Data Lineage Data lineage is the record of where data comes from, how it moves, and how it is transformed across systems, from source to the table or model that uses it.
  • Encryption Encryption is a cybersecurity technique that converts data into a coded format to prevent unauthorized access. Common encryption methods include symmetric (AES) and asymmetric (RSA) encryption, essential for secure communications, financial transactions, and data protection.
  • Statistical data types Statistical data types refer to the classification of data into categories such as nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio data. Understanding these types helps in selecting appropriate analysis methods and visualization techniques.
